Possible CCWP Content Literacy Study Groups:
Defining and Teaching Disciplinary Literacies
Writing and Reading in Social Studies and Science
CCWP values and honors teacher knowledge and expertise! We will each bring our own expertise and understanding of literacy instruction to share with our group.
CCWP values classroom inquiry, with a strong research base:
We will be reading and discussing current research on Disciplinary Literacies, with a lens on the following questions:
What does it mean to think and write like an historian? a scientist?
What resources can help us define our own essential content literacy skills?
Because ELA literacy strategies often do not “work” when reading and writing in other disciplines, how can we teach students to read and write about social studies and science texts?
